Karina’s Journey: Seeking and Discovering God from Alicia Edquist on Vimeo.

Growing up in a broken home and getting into trouble was not the way Karina Serrano, 20 years old, imaged in her life as a child.

She grew up in San Bernardino, Calif. in a non-Christian home with her mom, step father and half brothers and sisters. All she wanted was a fresh start after years of trouble and brokenness through her youth and school years.

It wasn’t until moving after her freshman year to a new school that she found the fresh start she was looking for and a neighboring church next to the school to begin seeking God.

The 26th annual Kids Day brings families and community organizations out to Furman Park in Downey, Calif to bring awareness to kids and families. Life Church Foursquare, a new church plant in the city is attending for the second time since becoming a church. Life Church staff members ask attendees the question What’s your dream? and attendees have the chance to write their dream on a 3×5 card and post it to the wall to share with the community. According to the church staff this is a way for the church to understand the community’s dreams.

With more than 50 churches in the City of Downey, three new church plants are calling Downey home in the last two years.

The three newest churches are within a one and half square mile area of each other and range in size of congregation and religious denomination. The churches each have Facebook page to connect with people.
